| Documentation of the stalking events is crucial in order to
establish a pattern of behavior that can later be used to aid in the prosecution of the
stalker. Without such documentation, remembering names, dates, and places can be
very difficult. Below is a form that you can copy for documenting events immediately after they occur. A list of emergency numbers should be posted in several areas. These numbers should include local law enforcement, immediate family members, employer(s), prosecutor, and members of a threat management team (if available). In your description of the stalking events be sure to provide details regarding threats, your reactions to the stalker's behaviors, and any evidence of the event. It is also very important to save any letters, taped answering machine messages/photos/video recordings, gifts, police reports, or medical reports pertaining to the stalking. The written documentation and physical evidence will help to establish a pattern of behavior and verification of the stalking events. These will go far towards gaining support from others. |
